Abstract

Background and Objectives: Teachers have different working conditions than other professions, and career plateaus are highly prevalent among teachers in terms of job characteristics and organizational context. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the relationship between career plateaus and positive work outcomes for teachers.

Methods: The present study was based on an applied purpose and based on the data collection method, it was a quantitative descriptive-correlational type. The statistical population of this study included all teachers of public schools in Mahabad city, who were selected as the research sample using a random sampling method using the Cochran method. The standard questionnaires of Millman's job plateau (1992), Smith et al.'s job satisfaction (1969), Meyer and Allen's affective commitment to the organization (1997), and Price's job attachment (2003) were used to collect data.

Findings: The results of the Pearson correlation coefficient test showed that the relationship between all research variables and job plateau was significant at the level of (P=<0.05). Among the research variables, job satisfaction (-0.28), organizational commitment (-0.25) and job attachment (-0.16) had the highest negative correlation coefficient with job plateau, respectively. Also, the results of the regression statistical test showed that job plateau has a negative and significant effect on job satisfaction (B=-0.156), commitment (B=-0.254) and job attachment (B=-0.289) of teachers.
