Abstract
the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of the problem-based learning method on reading enthusiasm and group study tendency in third-grade students in District 6 of Isfahan. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all third-grade students in District 6 of Isfahan in the academic year 1403-1404, of which 30 were selected using the convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). The research instrument included a researcher-made questionnaire on reading enthusiasm and group study tendency, which were completed in two stages: pre-test and post-test. The experimental group was trained in the problem-based or problem-oriented learning method based on the method proposed by Schmidt and Maus (2000) for 12 sessions, but the control group did not receive training during this period. The results of multivariate analysis of covariance and univariate analysis of covariance showed that the problem-based learning method was effective on the enthusiasm for reading and its dimensions in third grade students in the post-test stage (p<0.001). The results also showed that the problem-based learning method was effective on the tendency to study and its dimensions in third grade students in the post-test stage (p<0.001). Considering the positive results of problem-based learning on the enthusiasm for reading and group study of students, it is suggested that this approach be seriously included and developed in school curricula.
